A selfie with our new friends in Fez, who made us feel like part of the family.

Thank you, Ghita, Walid, Samira and Zakaria!

We have learned that much of Moroccan culture is centered around family. Throughout our trip, we were so lucky to be able to stay with local families and really experience the quality time that they spend: talking, playing, eating and relaxing. In many ways, it reminded us of precious time spent with our own families in the United States. The importance of family is one of those things that's true across cultures!

During our stay with Ghita in Fez, we spent the day with her sister-in-law, Samira, and Samira's two sons, Walid and Zakaria. We had a busy day touring the old and new parts of Fez, but we also had some time to relax at a beautiful park, a common pastime for the family.

The beautiful park was in the new part of Fez.

We relaxed after a day of sightseeing with some mint tea, fresh-squeezed juices and a few rounds of the American game, Left-Right-Center. Our hosts were quick to learn this simple (but fun!) game. Zakaria was the winner! It was a beautiful evening to end our time in Fez.

Left: An exciting game of Left-Right-Center with juices and mint tea.

Right: Ms. Pollock and Ms. Cassidy with Zaki, who won the game.

Ms. Cassidy and Ms. Pollock relaxing on the swings, while two serious soccer games played out nearby.
